Braces. It’s a dreaded word, really, isn’t it? Especially for those of you teenagers out there. The thought of having a metal ‘thing’ enforced on your teeth for not only days, but in some cases, years. I can just see you all shuddering now. But, and yes, there is a but. There shouldn’t be any shuddering at all! Braces are a great invention and yes, while it may not be ideal whilst you have them on, the benefits more than make up for it. Plus, thanks to technology there are many designs available now, such as the invisalign braces which, as the name suggests, are invisible.

Whether you are in your teens or you have well and truly passed your teens, it doesn’t matter. There is no age limit on who can get braces. If you want them, go out and get them! There are so many positives in regards to getting braces and there really aren’t any negatives apart from the fact that you will have to learn a new smiling technique while you have them on. At the end of the day, that really shouldn’t be a problem. When you first get your braces put in it may feel a little bit foreign or uncomfortable but you will be right as rain within a few days.
Firstly, there are a range of reasons as to why you may need braces. It could be that you have crooked teeth or you might have large gaps in between your teeth, maybe you have an overbite or underbite or your jaw is misaligned, perhaps your teeth are overcrowded or you have trouble chewing your food. As you can see, there are a variety of different reasons, and they are not all just related to looks.
Of course, one of the major benefits of having braces is to do with looks – you will be left with a red-carpet worthy set of teeth. Who wouldn’t want that!? But most importantly, your teeth will be fully functional and healthy. Basically, braces will correct the alignment of your teeth which will not only result in a cosmetic improvement but it will be majorly beneficial for the health of your teeth. Braces also help with chewing and will keep your teeth from wearing, making them less prone to gum disease and cavities.
Now, while I highly encourage you to head to the dentist and sign up for braces, make sure you really need them before plunging head first into the idea. I would suggest seeing a few different dentists, just to make sure you really do need braces, and for the right reasons.
Overall, when it comes to getting braces there are many different things to think about and consider, but at the end of the day, if you need braces there really should be no questions asked – you 100 percent should get them. You will benefit massively and I can guarantee, once those braces come off you will be left feeling refreshed and confident – almost like you’ve had a makeover! No matter how young or old you are, the benefits of having braces are clear. The time is going to pass anyway and I can guarantee if you don’t get them, in two years time you will be wishing you had!
